Preventing photoaging and wrinkles

Case Study

Laura was an aging baby boomer.  When she was growing up, sunscreens were not available. No one knew the evils of tanning, cooking and frying in the outdoors and she even used to hit the tanning salon. Her skin was now wrinkled and spotted. The sun damage had taken its toll on her skin. Was there any way to reverse the wheels of time?

The sun is the great ager and wrinkler. Most of us have cooked and fried for the first 20 or 30 years of our lives and see only later the damaging effects the sun has caused. Wearing a hat with a 3 inch or wider brim, wearing protective clothing, and using a with a sun protection factor of 30 or higher will be most helpful. A water resistant sunscreen is helpful if you will be swimming or sweating a lot. Try and do your outdoor activities and exercise before 10 in the morning or after 3:30 in the afternoon. Also, choose your parents wisely since our tendency to sunburn and get skin cancers are genetically determined. (Just kidding -- since we cannot choose out parents, wear your hat and sunscreen.) We appreciate the opportunity to examine your skin for pre-cancers & skin cancers, and to discuss ways of keeping your skin looking as youthful and vigorous as possible.
