Laser Hair Removal

The GentleLASE hair removal laser has been approved by the FDA, and it is state of art for permanent hair reduction. We will see you periodically in the space of 12 months to permanently remove unwanted hair. Mustache hair, beard hair, nose and ear hair, and hair on the abdomen, bikini line and back are frequently treated sites.

There are no painful needle pricks nor irritating chemicals nor waxes to use. With a cryospray delivered 3 milliseconds prior to your laser treatment, there is only a minimum of discomfort. Most of your hairs will permanently be removed, and the few that remain will be much smaller and less noticeable.

The best candidates have fair skin and dark hair. Unfortunately, laser technology does not yet work on blonde, white or gray hair. Patients should come in without a tan. If it is summer, we may opt to reschedule your treatment in the fall or winter.

For people of color, we use the Sciton profile to safely remove unwanted hair. Blacks, Hispanics, Hawaiians, Asians and other dark complected races can enjoy successful laser hair removal.

Case Study #1:  Facial and Body Hair

Many men and women are troubled with unwanted hair.  Maybe their chin, upper lip, armpit, abdomen, bikini area or legs have noticeable dark hair.  Because of genetic or hormonal reasons beyond their control, the most feminine lady may be rendered "unfeminine" by the public perception of excessive hair.  Shaving, waxing, bleaching, depilatory creams and electrolysis - these methods are sometimes painful and many are only temporary.

The GentleLASE by Candela Laser of Boston, Massachusetts, has been approved by the FDA for permanent hair reduction. The laser vaporizes the hairs, and most are gone forever. The ones left behind tend to be less noticeable blonde or peach fuzz hairs.

Case Study #2:  Post Surgical Hair Removal

Mark had a large cancer behind his ear. Under the expert care of a local plastic surgeon, the carcinoma was cured with a wide surgical excision requiring a flap. Although the cancer was cured, some months later hair began to sprout behind the ear. The flap came from the beard on the left cheek. Every morning when the patient would shave, he would hack himself up since couldn't see behind his ear.

To excise the hairy skin behind the ear would add insult to injury. The doctors and staff at DLAM had a great idea. By using the GentleLASE hair removal laser, the hairs were erased without leaving any further scarring (the patient was very "gun shy" about further scalpel surgery).

Four to five sessions in the next 12 months will make it unnecessary to shave behind the ears. See photos.

 Case Study #3 - Black Hairy Tongue

Stephanie developed squamous cell carcinoma (cancer) of her left tongue. The ENT doctors did a wonderful job of excising this cancer and getting it cured. They repaired the defect with a graft of skin. The doctors and the patient were delighted that she can talk and eat.

Three months later many black hairs sprouted (the graft was from her leg). Hairs would grow and shed in her mouth.

Our next project is to permanently vaporize these dark hairs with the GentleLASE. Since it is not x-ray nor ultraviolet light, it is safe to use even on a pregnant woman.
